NCF offers several trainings to help you recognize signs that someone may be struggling and action steps to help.
Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA): |
Mental Health First Aid for Adults teaches people how to recognize signs of mental health or substance use challenges in adults ages 18 and older, how to offer and provide initial help, and how to guide a person toward appropriate care if necessary. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, psychosis, and addictions. Contact us about scheduling a training.
|
Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA): |
This course is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent who is experiencing a mental health crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including ADHD), and eating disorders.

Talk Saves Lives: |
Talk Saves Lives was created by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and is a 60-minute education program that provides participants with a clear understanding of suicide, including the most up-to-date research on suicide prevention, and what you can do in your community to save lives. Participants will learn common risk factors and warning signs associated with suicide, and how to keep themselves and others safe. In addition to the standard presentation, there are specific Talk Saves Lives modules focused on senior and LGBTQ+ populations.

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper Training: |
This training teaches 3 simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. QPR can be learned in as little as one hour, and courses can be tailored for the needs of specific audiences. Go here for more information about QPR, or contact us to schedule a free training for your group or organization.
