Making a Referral to Suicide Prevention Counseling:

In order to be considered for the SPC, the youth must be between 10 -21, at risk for suicide and have financial barriers to receiving therapy. A youth may be referred to the program by a parent, school counselor, licensed mental health counselors, social workers, probation officers, nurses or family practitioners.

If you are concerned about a youth in Flathead County, please take these steps:
  1. When an at-risk youth has been identified and is eligible for SPC, call the Crisis Line at 406-752-6262 and ask for a SPC Counselor Referral.
  2. The receptionist will collect basic information and provide a list of SPC counselors (3) in youths identified community.
  3. Two forms should be completed, as described by the Nurturing Center Receptionist at the time of the referral, and parental consent given if youth is under 18.
  4. The youth and their family are encouraged to contact one of the SPC Therapists to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
